Vladimir Usatov
In his work, Vladimir Usatov draws on the good-natured humor of his native Vyatka in Northern Russia. Having mastered the rules and laws of classical art, he was able to go beyond them and establish himself as a primitivist.
It is precisely those elements of primitivism that draw us to his portraits and subjects and make them so highly original.
While naïve art has become fashionable again – with exhibits of folk and children’s art, and monographs of amateur artists – the primitive pictures of Usatov are something else altogether: they are the stylistic inspirations of a true master.
